How to optimise precious space into a useful area

Now, more than ever before schools are having to look at using different areas of their school for other activities. Never has there been a greater need to create more learning areas - out of the same amount of space.
Thankfully, we've some ideas to help re-invent your school and make each space inspirational and purposeful.
Don't overlook open areas
You may view your corridors as simply a walking aisle, but why not re-look at it and consider how you could incorporate a small learning area like John Keats Primary School did for their new-build? Students like having a choice of study areas and this approach often works well for students who like to work alone in or in small groups.
Make the most of the small spaces
Small areas such as this meeting room at the Royal Masonic School can get discounted as being too small to serve any real purpose. However, such spaces can more often than not be transformed into a useful additional space like this; a meeting space, a small group learning area or even a one-to-one study hub.
Re-imagine everyday areas
When looked at from a different angle, many areas of schools can be re-imagined to use for a different activity. For example, dining halls are most often used for lunchtimes and PE lessons, but what about 'pop-up classrooms'? After all, they're spacious areas so why not put them to good use like Boxgrove Primary did? We installed our popular Versa Wall Pocket dining tables in their multi-use hall to create a truly multi-functional and adaptable asset to their school.
